Overview of Tools

PowerPoint
PowerPoint is a software program used to create presentations. The documents designed in PowerPoint can be printed or displayed with a video or a slide projector.

Swish
SwishMax is a low-bandwidth movie application that utilizes Adobe Flash technology to create cross-platform compatible presentations. SwishMax can be used to create a movie which you can publish directly to the Internet or via a web page. The movie typically consists of graphics and text that are choreographed to music (mp3 file).

FrontPage
FrontPage is a Microsoft software application that is used for web design and development. In this application you can easily create and modify web pages with the ease of the Microsoft family of products.

Virtual Progressive Adventure
The VPA is defined as an Internet-based, instructional technology, student-driven learning encounter.  It is typically sequential in nature but can be designed with a modified hierarchal structure.  Both structures tend toward easy navigation for the younger-aged audience. (Those typically not experienced beyond basic Internet web presence navigation.) Discipline content in the VPA is, in general, experienced by or displayed to the viewer.  There may or may not be an assessment applied.  Worksheets, "treasure hunts" or "scavenger hunts" often add reinforcement to the engaging experience.

Problem Centered Activity
The PCA is defined as an Internet-based, instructional technology, student-driven learning experience.  It is typically hierarchical in structure and tends to provide the viewer with more freedom of navigation and information display.  Discipline content in the PCA is gathered and deciphered (from other web presence sources or web pages within the activity) to solve an engaging problem presented at the onset of the activity. The general design of the PCA is introduction-task-process-research-assessment.  However, these categories may be modified terminology-wise or structurally depending on the viewing audience age.  The viewer with basic Internet navigation techniques should be able to explore online activities on the hierarchical structure with clearly labeled navigation links.

Virtual Learning Guide
The Virtual Learning Guide is an appropriate Internet-based unit of study that is accessible for learning or specific disabilities.  In addition, the web pages that make up the learning guide are designed and developed with accessible integrity techniques integrated.

Virtual Study Guide
A Virtual Study Guide is a two page website that will create a summary on a given unit of study as well as a practice test.  In years past, teachers have provided students with a study guide packet that provides the students with a summary of the unit's information and a practice test.  This project does just that but in a digital format.
